Photocrank Logo

Photocrank is looking to add value to your mobile camera image by providing a fun and easy way to enhance your digital images. All you need to do is email the image from your mobile to Photocrank and instantly Photocrank gets back to you with the enhanced image. Nice thing about Photocrank service is that you don’t need to install any application on to your mobile phone. Photocrank is located in Wayne, PA and is headed by Jeff Tannenaum.

To use Photocrank service, you need to signup at their site. Photocrank has developed a good repository of effects (cranks) that can be added to the image and are available for viewing online. Each crank has an email address associated where you need to email your images. When you email your image to the crank address, Photocrank returns back with the cranked image. All the photos will also be available online on Photocrank website. As of now there are no storage limitations as but that might change in future. Photocrank effects include text on the body of picture message, special border, graphics, superimposed words and text, text bubbles, and arrows. If you need more effects and are creative, you can always create your own.

Currently, you can crank images only from your mobile handset, and not from regular email. Photocrank is working on providing pc based cranking. Photocrank is hoping that their service will catch up quickly with college students. They also want to expand their focus group to 18-34 year age bracket, since they have seen good response from people with kids in their beta testing.

You can subscribe to Photocrank service or pay per crank basis. There are 2 subscription plans, first that gives you 20 cranks for $4.99 per month, and second gives you 40 cranks for $7.99 per month. If you want to pay per crank basis the charge will be 30 cents per crank. Photocrank service comes with 3 complimentary crank credits and is available only to AT&T, Cingular, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless customers.

Photocrank is currently in beta which they intend to keep in beta for few more weeks. Photocrank is also planning to add more features which will be launched later this year.
