Have you used Emotive’s "Push Ringer"?

Not many people I know of have heard about Emotive. But pretty soon word will spread around about this fun little idea. Emotive provides this service called “Push Ringer”, that does something different. It enables the caller to push an outgoing ringtone to the receiving phone allowing the caller, not the called person, to set the tone. Ha. That is neat idea. Not sure I would like that to happen on my phone, still a nice feature. So the way it works is that the chosen ringtone is transmitted to the recipient’s handset and temporarily overrides the phone’s pre-set ringtone. Emotive had launched the “Push Ringer” on Skype network in 2006 and already has been installed 800,000 times. Emotive will be unveiling the solution for mobile phones later this month.

Now the place where Emotive will make the bucks is the case when the called person likes the ringtone and wants to buy for his/her own phone. As for the ringtones that can be transmitted you can send audio, video, animations, avatars or flash files.

For this smart idea that works over 3G, 4G(?), and VoIP services, Emotive has been able to raise $7.7 million in Series A round of funding. The investment round was participated by D. E. Shaw group, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, Warner Music Group and prominent media and telephony angel investors. So right around the time you think ringtone business might fizzle out, you have one or other startup making sure it carries on.
