Mediasilo – Collaboration Platform for Video Producers

Mediasilo is working on development of unique collaboration software targeting the video production and post-production companies that have team members located in geographically dispersed locations. This software will be of great aid to big/small production companies, as well the more innovative content creators of Youtube, et al, who want to get serious about video production and editing. At a time when most of the startups are focusing on being just another Youtube clone, Mediasilo wants to play the game differently and develop something that is very much needed.

Mediasilo is developed by Boston based Productorials Inc which works on developing sales and training presentations. Kai Pradel who is leading a team of 15 people heads the project. Mediasilo is in private beta right now and looking to launch officially later this year.

Mediasilo features include Project Manager, Media Manger and User Manager. Mediasilo has developed some really cool features like drag-drop of videos to upload and share it with the team or a client. User can also add in-video annotation that can be used later for quicker video reviews by team members. There is also facility to add comments, maintain multiple versions of videos, and script timing. MediaSilo subscribers can upload just about any video file type, which is then converted to a web-optimized format on the server side. This greatly simplifies the sharing of media across platforms and operating systems. Mediasilo has an add-on, Broadcaster, that allows uses to create channel lineups that can be launched on any website. Users can simply drag-and-drop files into a Lineup Bin, click to select embed code, and paste that code on their website.

Mediosilo is using the best of the breed technologies to deliver an excellent user experience. Mediasilo is developed as a Rich Internet Application using Adobe Flex 2 and ActionScript 3 for front-end design. They are using Amazon S3 to enable highly replicated data storage and excellent on-demand computing platform from Akamai for content delivery. I think both the choices made by Medisilo are great which helps them focus on adding features instead of worrying about additional infrastructure as the demand grows.

Mediasilo is thinking of offering plans starting at $149/month for a team with additional plans for $249, $349/month. Enterprise plans also will be provided for high usage customers. Number of users allowed wont be an issue but the pricing will be according to bandwidth and disk space used.

On the whole I really appreciate the idea and amount of effort put in by Mediasilo. The market they are aiming for is pretty large but does require significant marketing effort to get Mediasilo off the ground.
